The FA’s investigation has since expanded to include three additional matches where Paquetá received yellow cards: against Leicester City on November 12, 2022; Aston Villa on March 12, 2023; and Leeds United on May 21, 2023.

The Testimony of Bruno de Moura

The crux of the current investigation lies in testimony provided by Brazilian businessman Bruno López de Moura. De Moura, who has been identified by authorities as the leader of a betting ring involved in fixing matches in Brazil’s Serie A and B leagues in 2022 and state matches in 2023, admitted to having insider knowledge that Paquetá would receive yellow cards. He stated that he obtained this information from a friend of Mattheus Paquetá’s, Marlon Bruno Nascimento da Silva.
